Here in Europe we're all baffled. Almost fifty percent of the people in Britain were against leaving Europe, and the parliament wanted to stay.And yet, instead of waiting until a large majority wanted to leave, the conservatives decided to impose their will on he people, and make Britain leave.Doesn't that make them look a bit irrational

 

That's how referendums or elections work. The majority wins, except in US Presidential elections where it's about the majority in each state.

 

It’s all about money in the end I left the UK in 1982 and have been back a few times for a visit it seems in my limited and himbke opinion that it did nothing to alleviate the price of everyday goods intact I found the cost of shopping was markedly higher. What was the point of it, seems to have helped those who were already getting rich off the backs of consumers

The only reason it's the Conservatives doing it, is because they are the party in power at the time. If Labour was in they'd be doing it.

 

Actually I find that kind of crazy that you all elect a government rather than a leader.

I think the idea is that it they don't like him, or he's not much good, they can change him without having elections. That's what happened with Thatcher, when she started going a bit funny.

 

Actually she resigned in 1990 and stayed in politics until suffering a stroke in 2002.

Really? I'm afraid all my information comes from watching the film with Meryl Streep, so you can't rely on what I say. It's just I seem to remember her being such a pest that they got rid of her. But, I saw the film a long time ago.

I don't think she became a pest ,the Conservative Party felt they couldn't win another election with her in charge ,so they changed her as leader

Did Labour want to leave Europe as well, then? It all seems very complicated for us if you don't live in Britain. I think the conservatives were pretty divided as well, weren't they?
