Local gym hosts unforgettable community fitness event
The event brought together fitness enthusiasts from the community to support one another in a fun-filled aerobics session.

Accelerate Fitness located at Southdale Shopping Centre recently held a community aerobics event bringing together fitness enthusiasts from across Johannesburg south for a high-energy session.
The inspiration behind it was to unite the community through movement and promote a healthy lifestyle. The club general manager, Desiree James and fitness instructor, Michael Dywili said: “We also wanted to celebrate the power of group workouts and encourage more people to join the fitness journey.”
This platform provided the community and those from different gyms, clubs, and fitness backgrounds to connect and support each other. The event saw members from the community and the southern suburbs team.

Rosettenville aerobics team, Rotunda Park fitness team and South Hills Aerobics team. “Seeing everyone move in sync and feed off each other’s energy reinforced the power of community fitness,” shared Dywili.
“We had various aerobics sessions, including high-energy hi-lo workouts, box aerobics, and functional training. The workouts were designed to be fun, challenging, and suitable for different fitness levels.
“The goal was to keep the energy high while ensuring everyone had a great experience,” he added.
The organisers received overwhelmingly positive responses from the participants and many of them mentioned how much they enjoyed how the workouts were structured and how motivating the atmosphere was. Dywili highlighted how some even expressed interest in joining regular classes and bringing their friends along next time.

“The excitement and appreciation for community fitness events like this encourage us to host more sessions like this.”
The gym had support from fitness professionals who helped lead the sessions which made them realise that collaborations like these are essential for growing the fitness community.
“I hope this event inspires more people to prioritise their health and see fitness as an enjoyable activity rather than just a workout. It’s about creating a culture where exercise is a celebration, not a chore. Hopefully, it encourages more people to join group fitness and build healthier habits,” expressed Dywili.
